This time of year is always a busy time for our evening wear side, with the party season getting into full swing! I have recently completed a new collection of evening gowns, which was launched at our Cheshire store a couple of weeks ago, but already I am looking forward to our next collection - the design process never stops!
I have had an exciting week creating gowns for the new X Factor series, which I also worked on last year with Alexandra Burke and Ruth Lorenzo. I spent an evening at the X Factor house on Tuesday designing outfits for Miss Frank, Lucie and Stacey, having been briefed by the X Factor’s head stylist. Creating gowns for TV is a completely different concept to my usual design work. There are so many considerations to take into account, such as how the fabric will look under the strong lighting, the colour theme of the set, the song they are performing. All three acts had an individual look - Stacey’s gown was an ultra-glam, white silk satin corseted design covered in a silver sequin mesh and Swarovski crystals around the neckline; Lucie’s gown was a classic red floor length design with black cross-over straps whilst Miss Frank were in custom made corsets and co-ordinating pinstripe tailoring.
Although this is a different world to my usual design work, I love the buzz of working for shows such as this and seeing the results on screen at the end of the week. We have to work really quickly to get the outfits ready for the night but each piece is still created by hand and made to measure, as with all of our gowns. Usually we take orders for bridal up to six months ahead, so this is no mean feat!
